Question: I have had acid reflux for a few years now been through 2 upper GI's in the last 4yrs. Doc put me on Prilosec up until last month my throat feels tight along its a tender stomach and I taste acid in my mouth all day I also elevate my head about a foot while laying down at night and cut out all alcohol, spicy foods and caffeine the Prilosec is no longer effective so a couple weeks ago my doc put me on dexilant it seemed to work but I ate something with onions the other day and my acid reflux is back in full affect. The tightness in my throat comes and goes by the hrs along with the acid so if meds don't work what are my other alternatives. Please help

Brief Answer:
GERD

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.
Hi, I am Dr Anshul Varshney , I have read your query in detail , I understand your concern.
It seems you are suffering from Acid Peptic Disease/ Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD).
This usually presents with pain in upper part of abdomen. However, i would like to rule out any evidence of Gall Bladder stones that can cause the pain. So, i would recommend an Ultrasound Abdomen and since your UGIE have been performed, it can be repeated to rule out h.pylori infection.
Priolec helps only with the acid suppression but doesn't help in controlling the reflux.
I would advise you to take a combination of Pantoprazole and Domperidone and to take anti flatulent and anti acidity syrup like Digene/Gelusil for symptomatic relief.
I would also advice you to:
1. Take Soft and Bland diet.
2. Walk after all meals.
3. Take small, frequent meals.
4. Avoid dinner later then 8 pm.

As mentioned, there is an infection called as h.pylori which causes recurrent gastric and duodenal ulcers and such episodes of acidity.
So, if during Endoscopy your doctor finds ulcers, he would take a biopsy and Rapid Urease Test done for h.pylori infection and to get it treated.
This is my personal opinion based on details available here. If you still have any other query, you may please ask me.
Stay Healthy.

I was diagnosed the 1st time with h pylori and peptic ulcers but was only given prilosec and I have been on a bland diet so much that I've lost 5lbs in 3weeks is there a medication to get that acid back down into my stomach and not in my mouth?? I haven't been exercising after meals so I will try and do that I'm a truck driver so my eating and exercise habits lack consistency.

I've also have had a ultrasound and they did not find anything. Although I also have a pain in the left side of my back feels like a dull pain and only hurts when eating too much or after drinking alcohol which I stopped doing but it is a lingering pain that the doc has failed to give an explanation for.

Brief Answer:
Domperidone

Detailed Answer:
Hello, In that case, as discussed previously Domperidone would help you greatly.
I would in fact recommend you to go for anti h.pylori regimen. See back you doctor and share my opinion. If he agrees, he would give you a prescription for the same.
Good Luck.
