Question : Greetings I am 45 years old and didn't come back from recent trip in Las Vegas where I had spent some time with the girls during protected sex...

I was with her on Thursday start experiencing some symptoms on Friday night I'm not sure if it's in my head or not but my genitals or read and I was experiencing some tingling and burning of which I did stop by my doctors on Friday morning tell him about it get a Z pack and and he did an STD test which is it due back in four days. I was wondering what my chances are of contacting herpes I seem to be experiencing some tingling above my knees in addition...this is Saturday so it's been about 2 1/2 days since exposure I believe for possible exposure

Brief Answer:
Screen at 3-4 weeks and then again at 12-16 weeks

Detailed Answer:
hello. thank you for writing to us

I am dr. kakkar(dermatologist). I have gone through your query and i have noted your concern.

Genital herpes can be transmitted even with protected sex though using a condom greatly reduces the chances of transmission. Genital herpes presents with distinct erosive genital lesions and can be diagnosed clinically, therefore unless you develop visible genital sores suggestive of herpes the sure way to know whether you are infected or not would be to get yourself screened at appropriate intervals i.e initially at 3-4 weeks and then again at 12-16 weeks. Screening at this early stage would not be useful as it would most likely be false negative even if you got infected with the virus. Tingling could be a part of prodrome of genital herpes but it is usually accompanied or followed by typical genital sores of herpes. So if there are'nt any visible genial sores in next 1- 2 days then tingling alone does not justify infection with herpes.

No the area has been red and itchy for the past 24 hours or so and I'm applying this cream here that I had from a previous doctors incident... Still had some lying around... And I am a little rundown because I was traveling for nearly 24 hours I don't know whether it's food like symptoms or just dealing with all the traveling... I have attached a picture of the cream that I am using I've applied at once so far and it seems to be doing a good job...

Brief Answer:
Continue with the cream

Detailed Answer:
Hi. thank you

I have reviewed the image. This is an antifungal cream

I suggest you to continue with it and screen for Herpes, at appropriate intervalss, as suggested. In the mean time if you develop any sores, growths/ warts etc you may present yourself for examination.
