I have had vitiligo since I was 14 and have had anxiety and problems with being at social events. My daughter's wedding is in March and I have been anxious about that since there will be 250 people. The cost of the wedding and being self conscious of my vitiligo as well as having anxiety is probably why I have trouble sleeping. Sometimes I can fall a sleep but I wake up after about 2 hours or so.
I only take .25mg of alprazolam when I am going on a big sales call or a social event. I don't take it very often. My forehead also tingles as well.
The tingling seems to come on when I am anxious but I have noticed it when I wake up in the middle of the night. There is no history of diabetes.
I take a multi vitamin,B-12-folic acid- E-C-calcium.magnesium- ginko biloba
I have been taking rodiola for stress and 5htp for sleep

I take alprazolam .25 mg 3 to 4 times a month. The rhodiola rosea is 240 mg and rosavin is 12mg from Gaia Herbs. I have only taken 5thp for 3 nights.
My family Dr prescribed the alprazolam but 5htp and rhodiola was my idea. I read Dr Don Colbert's books on stress and anxiety and also saw him on the Dr Oz show.My family Dr also referred me to a Psycologist for CBT. I went for 10 sessions and was told to call if I needed more. I wanted a more natural way to combat the stress and anxiety that I have so my vitiligo wouldn't get worse. Having to deal with vitiligo gives me stress and stress gives me anxiety, Stress and anxiety makes the vitiligo spread.

Brief Answer:
Recommend Paroxetine

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear. Thanks for sharing the information.Appreciate your interest for books on stress.

I am really impressed that you are interested in natural ways of relieving your stress.I would recommend to continue sessions on CBT.Yoga, pranayama, exercise relieves stress and enhance the mental as well as physical strength and well-being.

I were to choose a more longer acting drug like Clonaepam instead of alpraolam which is short acting and results in dependence on prolonged use.Hence I were to assess and shift to clonazepam by down titrating the dose of alprazolam to avoid withdrawal symptoms.

More importantly I were to opt for a SSRI like paraoxetine which has a good anti anxiety effect with an additional action which restores/improves your sleep. This is the only drug among SSRI's which has this dual advantage. This is also less likely to exacerbate vitiligo.Consult a psychiatrist so that appropriate therapy can be initiated if you cannot overcome stress even with lifestyle modifications.

Futher I would not recommend 5htp(since the data is still evolving) and herbs(Rhodiola rosea) which might have unknown drug interactions.

I hope this effectively breaks your stress-vitiligo vicious cycle.

All the best.
