Suggest Treatment For Tingling Sensation On The Arms And Legs

default
Posted on Tue, 13 Dec 2016
Question: I have been sick for 3 weeks and was told I was positive for Epstein Barr (mono). I never ran a fever and all of my bloodwork was normal (except positive EBV). I have mild tingly sensations in my arms and legs that come and go. Especially at night. Also right shoulder discomfort that also comes and goes. Is this due to the mono? Everyone keeps telling me it is, but I can't find that listed as a symptom anywhere. Thanks.

Brief Answer:
EBV infection may result to Guillain-Barre syndrome.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Besides other symptoms that may cause Epstein Barr Virus infection, Guillain-Barre syndrome is a possible feature.

Tingling, or pins and needless sensation is one of the most common symptoms of this syndrome, besides weakness that may affect different muscles.

So, it is possible that tingling could be a feature of Epstein Barr.

Discuss with your Doctor about these issues, even to exclude Guillain -Barre.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Greetings.

Tingling could be a feature of Epstein Barr or Guilin barre? My dr didn't think it was guillian barre because the sensations come and go and there is no actually numbers or loss of function, however I have not been tested for guillian barre. Do I need to be referred to a neurologist to rest for guillian barre or can an MRI detect? Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Tingling a feature of Guillain-Barre.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.

Tingling is a common symptom of Guillain-Barre.

Epstein-Barr virus infection among other health issues, can cause Guillain-Barré syndrome, that's why I think this condition should be evaluated or excluded.

Nerve conduction study and EMG are the appropriate tests to determine the cause of the tingling and could help in confirming or excluding Guillain-Barre.

Getting evaluated by a Neurologist also is necessary to evaluate and exclude any possible nervous system involvement by Epstein-Barr infection.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards.
