Question: I am looking for a solution to cure the continuous Air-cutting/humming sound in my left ear. 6 Years back a perforation was done by ENT Surgeon to clear the congestion in my left year. Post perforation infection occurred and the hole in the ear drum did not close. Also I started hearing air-cutting/humming sound. After 2 years I went for surgery and the ear drum was reconstructed. I was told by my ENT Surgeon that after this surgery the humming sound would also disappear. Though the ear drum is intact and hearing is perfect now, but 24 hrs I hear air-cutting/humming sound in my left ear, which is quite disturbing. Please advise if there is a solution available to cure this problem.

Brief Answer:
If hearing is normal and ear drum is intact then it maybe due to Hypertension

Detailed Answer:
Hi Sir,
I have gone through your question and understand your concern; and if hearing is normal and ear drum is intact then may be due to hypertension and or anxiety induced.

If I were your treating doctor then I would like to prescribe you
1. Tablet caroverine 20 mg twice a day.
2. Tablet alprazolam 0.25mg once in the night.

Continue the treatment for at least one month after consulting with your doctor.
If the condition persists even after this then better to send me the report of pure tone audiometry, impedance audiometry, routine blood investigations and blood pressure measurements for further management.

Thanks for your response. Please advise if I can take the medicines prescribed by you along with the medicines which I am already taking, which are as follows :-

1. Telma 40 mg - one tablet in the morning
2. Superia DSR - one tablet in the morning
3. Gluconorm SR 1 G - twice a day

I also wish to mention that I am keeping headache for the last 2 years. The headache is normally mild with heaviness, but sometimes it gets severe. Is the headache linked to my humming/air-cutting sound in the left ear.

Brief Answer:
You may take

Detailed Answer:
Hi Sir,
I have gone through your follow up question; and for your kind information you may take the medicines prescribed by me along with your above mentioned medicines.

Most probably your headache not linked with your humming/ air cutting sound in the left ear.

But you may go for the CT scan PNS and or impedance audiometry to reach the near diagnosis.

Dear Dr. XXXXXXX

Many thanks for your response. Since my headache was troubling a lot, I have started my treatment under the guidance of a Neurologist. I would start the treatment for the air-cutting/humming sound in my left ear once my treatment for headache is over. I will come back to you once my acute problem of headache is over. Warm regards....XXXX
