Suggest Treatment For Tiredness When Diagnosed With Low BP

default
Posted on Tue, 5 Jul 2016
Question: Hi, I'm a healthy 73 yo woman, married, still working, meds for allergies, asthma, hypothyroidism, trigeminal pains, occasional migraines the last 8 years or so, perhaps 15 lbs overweight. 5'7", 170 lbs.

I've had elevated temps, fatigue, rather severe allergy/sinus infection/facial pains on one side of face, chills one evening, and headaches for 6 days now.. Better today, but so fatigued, facial pains, mildly elevated temp.

Sometimes my BP is rather low, never a concern about being too high.

This morning it was 112/63 with a home unit hubby has checked every so often. And I'm even tireder Should I have any concern. Many thanks.

Brief Answer:
probably not...

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

it seems like you've got an upper respiratory tract infection that caused all the symptoms. Feeling tired and having fever is common. The same pathway that leads to fever, also leads to fatigue/joint pain/muscle pain/etc that commonly accompany infections. If you've never felt so bad, then this could a reason for concern. Suspicions for hematocrit drop or electrolyte disorders may be raised sometimes. Your blood pressure sounds OK, no concern about it.

Signs of more serious infection may include some (or all) of the following:
- low blood pressure (usually systolic less than 90mmHg) with faintness
- decreased urine production
- high heart rate
- shortness of breath
- high fever with rigor

Other symptoms or signs may also apply in various clinical scenarios but I've mentioned some common ones.

So in conclusion, your description sounds like a common respiratory tract infection without any complication of any kind. If you believe there is something unusual about it or you believe that there are signs or symptoms like the ones I've presented above then I suggest you visit your doctor for clinical examination.

I hope you find my comments helpful!
