Suggest Treatment For Toe Nail Fungal Infection

default
Posted on Wed, 30 Sep 2015
Question: I have toe nail fungus and I bought OTC medicine, an oil based, now I'm experiencing sharp, shocking, electrical pain off and on, and it has no preference of what type a shoe I'm wearing or whatever I'm doing. I also had a bunionectomy about 4 years ago, which left a large soft mass like thing that sits directly on top of this same toe and there is somewhat numbness, however, I CAN feel this sharp, electrical pain......

Brief Answer:
onychomycosis, diabetes, vascular cause

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

If its indeed a toe nail fungal infection, i.e onychomycosis then topical terbinafine in combination with clotrimazole for two months can be advised. Oral therapy can be initiated with terbinafine if the fungal infection persists or recurs. Fasting blood sugar and HBA1c levels must also be checked to rule out diabetes and associated diabetic neuropathy which can present with such symptoms. Doppler ultrasound of the lower limb including the posterior tibial and dorsal pedal vessels to look for a vascular cause, can be advised if the above causes are ruled out.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks
