Brief Answer:
Probably gout; other causes to be excluded

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for posting your query in Healthcaremagic.com.
This is Dr. Swarnava Dattagupta answering your query.

I understand your concern.
From your history, it seems like a manifestation of gouty arthritis. The location of swelling is not uncommon in case of gout either. Also you have previous history of gout.
But other probable causes like trauma, cellulitis etc should be ruled out. Also, if you have cardiac or kidney problems, such swellings can occur. However, gout seems quite a probable diagnosis.
Get your blood tested for uric acid and blood sugar and consult a doctor with the reports. Dont take drugs without a doctor's advice or prescription, specially steroids like prednisolone which has lots of side effects. There are other drugs available for gouty arthritis like febuxostat, allopurinol etc which are very effective. Take steroids only if it is necessary and after prescription by a doctor.
Also, avoid meat, alcohol and smoking. Local dry heat application and mild painkiller gel application might be helpful.

Hope I have answered your question.
If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
Regards.
