Complete ligament tear in the knee. Surgery vs Conservative management
Detailed Answer:
Hi there.
Thanks for the query.
How long has it been since the accident?
You have a compete ACL ligament tear in the knee.
The treatment depends on your activity level. If you are an athlete or sportsperson, you may need a reconstruction of the ACL ligament by arthroscopic or key hole surgery.
If you are a sedentary worker, not needing to run or play sports, then you don't need to undergo surgery.
Do wear a long knee hinged brace for 6 weeks after the injury. Keep the limb elevated. Apply ice 3 times a day.
I hope I have answered your query.
I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

Needs 6 weeks rest and then evaluate
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for the reply.
As I mentioned previously, do wear a hinged knee brace during sitting and walking for 6 weeks.
You have ACL ligament tear and also Meniscus cartilage tear. There are associated bone bruises and swelling also which need 6 weeks rest to subside. Avoid weight bearing completely on that limb. Avoid climbing stairs, walking with complete weight on that limb, bending that knee.
After 6 weeks, your Doctor needs to examine you and if there are considerable symptoms and if you need a physically active lifestyle, you could get the Arthroscopic surgery done.
