Suggest Treatment For Ulcers And Lesions On The Tongue

default
Posted on Wed, 19 Apr 2017
Question: I have what appear to be lesions/ulcers on the sides of my tongue, they heal slightly and come back in the same spots. They are irritated by spicy and hot foods and cold water or ice offer a little relief. This has been going on for two years now. It started when I used some advanced white Listerine. I have seen multiple doctors and I have gotten many different diagnoses. The first thought it was thrush, the next thought it was geographic tongue, and the last thought it just wasn't healing. I would like to know if there is something I should take or a diet I need to go on to fix this.

Please provide following details..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Thanks for the query..

Well, as per the image it is appearing like ulcers only on the sides of tongue..
It does not look like thrush.

I would like to know a few more details so that I can guide you better.

1.Can you please tell that what medications have you taken for this prevailing problem?
2. Does they flare up when you eat something specific?
3. Do you experience a dry mouth?
4. Do you have any known allergies?
5. Have you got any investigations done like allergy test, CBC, biopsy of the lesion etc?
6.Do you have any sharp teeth that rubs against the tongue?
7.Do you have any medical problems or are you on any medication?

Please revert back with answers.

Regards.

The first doctor spoke with gave me nystatin, witch is a medication for thrush, it didn't help. I have no known allergies, and I haven't done any tests or biopsies on the tongue. I also tried salt water rinses for it it it didn't help. I haven't noticed a dry mouth, but if I don't stay hydrated it does seem worse. The ulcers react to hot, spicy, or hard foods like chips. I have noticed them to be reactive to any irritant. I haven't noticed my tongue rubbing against or getting snagged on my teeth. I am on no medications and I get migraines once or twice a year but I don't think that's relative.

Brief Answer:
You need to get investigated..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Well, you should get certain investigations done like Serum Vitamin B12 and Iron levels done.
Along with it Allergic test and a biopsy from the lesion should be done..

It will help in ruling out the exact cause of the recurring ulcers and then only appropriate treatment can be advised..

As of now take Vitamin B complex and lysine supplements daily.
Such ice pops..
Avoid spicy and acidic foods..
Take soft diet..

Hope this information helps..
