Suggest Treatment For Uncontrolled Blood Sugar Levels During Pregnancy

Question: Hello doctor, I m in my 39th week of pregnancy. I m given betnasol injection yesterday n my post lunch sugar was 144 and post dinner was 189. Now doctor again gave me betnasol injection today morning and is goin to observe before n post lunch sugar. she said if not controlled will hv to give insulin n hv to plan csection. r there any side effects of this steroids? is this treatment right? this is my first pregnancy. I have no history of miscarriage or preterm.

Hi,

I read your query and I understand your concerns.

Following is my reply:

1. Unfortunately you are under wrong treatment.

2. With steroid injections like betnesol, the blood sugar rises. This is not right way to assess sugar control.

3. I dont think cesarean section is indicated.

4. Overall you are under wrong treatment. Please see a different doctor immediately and get blood sugar assessed by glucose tolerance test method.
