Brief Answer:
check for his blood for high blood sugar

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query,
I have read through your query and I would suggest you to check for his blood for high blood sugar if not yet tested. Diabetes makes the healing slower and may also complicate it by forming into an ulcer.

I would recommend you to consult with a general surgeon in your area for proper local examination and also to rule out causes like diabetes, peripheral arterial diseases (varicose veins).

Cleaning with hydrogen peroxide alone would not help, proper removal of the slough(the unhealthy tissue) is mandatory to ensure healthy margins for the wound to heal faster. I would suggest the use of soframycin ointment over the affected area once the slough removal is done.

Proper cleaning and maintaining a dry dressing along with management of other causes will surely help to heal the wound.

Hope I have answered to your query,
Please feel free to discuss further, as I would be pleased to assist you, or else kindly close this thread and rate.

Brief Answer:
you may consider skin graft for better and clean healing

Detailed Answer:
Hi again,
Thanks for the follow up,

It's good to know that your dad doesn't have diabetes.
Since you have consulted with a physician before and has been advised for a skin graft, you may consider it for better and clean healing. But you are required to investigate for the reasons behind the delayed healing of the wound. If its due to some trauma then it will surely give very high positive results.

If it is due to a venous insufficiency, skin graft alone may not give complete cure and chances are that it may arise again. In this case, its better to do a doppler ultrasound to pin point the exact location of weakness.

As always normal hemoglobin levels is a pre- requisite for surgery.

Hope this helps
