Brief Answer:
Spine problem can be the case.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Your symptoms can by caused by muscular pain indeed. Especially if you have been staying in one position for a long time (like long work at the computer). However muscles pain should go away within a week or so. If not, spine disc problem can be the case. From your description there can be a problem in cervical area.
It would be good to consult orthopedist and consider spine MRI. In a meanwhile you may try some physical therapy and muscle relaxing (pool swimming is a good idea).

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
