Brief Answer:
upper respiratory tract infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is likely a upper respiratory tract viral infection (common cold). There are different viruses that can result this infection. Fever may or may not occur. Because your body is fighting infection, it is not unusual to be tired.

The cough can progress from a dry cough to a wet one as it has done in your case. The coughing is due to irritation of the airways and in some cases due to nasal secretions dripping to the back of the throat.

Treatment would involve the use of :(1) mucolytics- these are medications that help break up mucus so that it can be expelled easier. Examples are bisolvan, mucomyst, guiafenesin (found in robotussin).

(2)a cough suppressant and anti histamine

(3)if you have nasal congestion, a decongestant would be helpful- eg pseudoephedrine, phenyephrine

These medications can be obtained over the counter, often in combination.

(4) rest and enough fluids are also important

It can sometimes take 1 to 2 weeks after the symptoms resolve for energy levels to return to normal.
