Question : I have not been able to urinate today. I feel the urge but can't go. What is the problem? This has never happened before.

Hello
Thanks for your query,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have retention of urine since Today morning .

I shall be happy if you can post me few more details to help me in making comments on your problem.
1) Is your bladder distended ?
2) Do you have pain in lower abdomen ?
3) Is there cold ?

The retention of urine that you have could be due to cold whether when urethral sphincter goes in to spasm .

Try following general measures to help to urinate
1) Have a hot fomentation with hot water bag over lower abdomen
2) Try to urinate with tap water in the bath room running(Draining) simultaneously.
3) Take hot coffee or tea .
4) Get routine urine test done to rule out infection

If these measures fail you will need to visit ER to get catheterized to empty your bladder .
