Suggest Treatment For Uterine Fibroid During 28 Weeks Of Pregnancy

default
Posted on Wed, 4 Feb 2015
Question: I am 28 weeks pregnant and had current fibroid size of 5.1 * 3.3 cm in mid-segment of posterior wall, got reduced from 5.1 * 4.7 cm within 40 days period. the doctor has suggested her proluton depot after 17 week till 36 week. I have taken two injection in week 19 and 20 but after that consulted other doctor and she said as this is the first child there is no need to take it, thus I have stop after 2 injections.
Currently I have to travel to my home-town which is 32 hour journey via train. I have broke the journey in two phase. phase 1 has 18 hour of journey (AC 2) then 30 hour of break in hotel, then the second phase is of 15 hour (AC 3). I have consulted the other doctor and she said me to take susten 200, twice a day two days before travel.
But now I am confused as I have taken proluton before and now have stopped it and the other doctor has suggested susten 200. Which one should I take? Thus it will have any issue while travelling? I have no other option but to travel, should I take the injection and the medicine as well. (little worried)
Please suggest.

Brief Answer:
Can take Susten. Dont take both Proluton and Susten.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
I can understand your query.
With a fibroid, there is always a risk of preterm labour, and travelling might enhance it.
It is always better to avoid travelling in such a scenario, but if it is imperative and unavoidable, due precautions have to be taken.
A break journey is a good idea.
Also the seat should be a lower XXXXXXX
AVoid eating outside food at all costs.
Drink home boiled water, and use restrooms with lot of hygiene ( railway washrooms are notoriously unclean, keep a good supply of tissues ).
Walk about a bit after a few hours of sitting.
You should have continued Proluton injection as it reduces risk of preterm labour .
Since you have discontinued it, you can now take Susten tablet as advised.
No, there is no need to take both the injection and the medication, just the tablets are enough.
All the best.
Please feel free to discuss further.

As mentioned.

I think you have yourself mentioned it in your question.
I do not differ with the opinion of your doctor.
Susten 200 twice a day, starting two days before travel, to be continued until two days after you reach your destination.

Thanks Doctor.

Should I take the injection or only go with the tablets. Also I am little worried that everything will be alright.
I have stop the Injection after consulting doctor. Does during travel it will not affect the baby right.

Brief Answer:
It will be alright.

Detailed Answer:
As I said earlier, taking both makes no sense, it is needless dose doubling.
I asked you to take only the tablets.
STopping Proluton was a wrong move, but you should not worry now.
Even Susten once started is alright during travel.
If possible, avoid travelling, but if you cannot, take all due necessary precautions, and the baby will be fine.
Relax, dont stress out.
