Question: I HAVE A CONSTANT VULVULAR BURNING ITCHING, I HAD BEEN TREATING MYSELF FOR A YEAST INFECTION BUT I REALIZED THAT WASNT IT, THERE WAS NO ODOR OR DISCHARGE. I AM VERY UNCOMFORTABLE IT FEELS LIKE IIS SO DRY THAT AT SOME TIMES IT FEELS AS IF MY FLESH CRACKS AND THEN IF I NEED TO URINATE , THE URINE STINGS THESE ' CRACKED' AREAS. COULD THIS BE VAGINAL DRYNESS? AND WHAT DO I SAY TO RECEPTIONIST WHAT I NEED TO BEE SEEN FOR WHEN I MAKE AN APPOINTMENT? OR IS THERE A SOMETHING I CAN PURCHASE OVER THE COUNTER?

Brief Answer:
DO NOT SELF MEDICATE, GET A VAGINAL SWAB DONE.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
DO not purchase anything over the counter.
Self treating vaginal infections can be a serious problem.
A vaginal infection should always be confirmed by a vaginal swab, and then treatment should be initiated.
The wrong kind of medication can worsen an infection, which might be happening in your case.
This sounds like vaginal dryness, and a possible infection - itching and burning are classic features.
Odour and discharge are not always necessary.
I would ask you to consult a Gynecologist - tell the receptionist you need to be seen for a vaginal infection / dryness.
Get an internal exam - per vaginum and per speculum, and a vaginal swab.
Vagisil, Rephresh, Douching - are not advisable.
They deplete normal vaginal flora, making it dry and prone to infections.
Best is cleaning with lukewarm water and patting dry with a towel, normal vaginal secretions are enough to cleanse it.
All the best
