Suggest Treatment For Vaginal Itching And Burning

default
Posted on Wed, 29 Apr 2015
Question: I had a complete hysterectomy in 1995 and have recently developed vaginal itching and burning. I am 63. I bought monistat 3 but have not used it yet. It feels like a yeast infection but I haven't had sex in a long time and don't know how I could have got it. Is it safe to just try the monistat?

Brief Answer:
detailed below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

Vaginal yeast infections are very common in post menopausal women due to hormonal changes, due to changes of vaginal ph .
If you are having itching and burning in genital area,it is highly likely to be due to a fungal infections.
Other possible causes are irritation due to detergents ,friction etc.
I would suggest to start the antifungal cream two times a day for few days.If the symptoms start to improve ,you can use it up to seven days or until your symptoms resolve.
If the symptoms doesn't seem to improve ,you may need to see your gynecologist because it might not be a fungal infection .
You don't need to worry. The antifungal cream is pretty safe and won't cause any problem. At least if the symptoms don't improve after using the cream you will know that this is not a fungal infection.

Hope it helps.
Let me know if you need further help.

Kind regards,
Dr.Rovena Murati
