Question : Hi

My wifes veins in right leg appears curled as if blood flow is having some hindrance. what is this? is it serious? is it curable. We noticed this a year ago during her pregnancy. its been 11 months since delivery but it doesn't seem to be healing

Hi,

Your description as well as the picture indicates varicose veins. It occurs due to incompetent vein valves. The specific treatment to cure it involves surgical measures. However if she has no symptoms such as pain / ulceration / bleeding, we need not hurry to get her into operating table.

However I will recommend she wears compression stockings at all times especially while walking and standing. You can check with her local doctor / surgeon. He/she will help you prescribe the right size and material for compression stockings.
