Question: Hello doctor,

My father is 61 year old having no pre existing decease... However he had common cold/fever 2 weeks ago. It got cured by tablets prescribed by doc.
Since a week he is having issue like vertigo when he sleeps, turn his head around and feel uncomfortable while walking...
The imbalance persists for less than a minute and later he can be normal.
He is on prescription of Vertin* 16, Stemetil MD by our physician.
Though he is feeling better, but vertigo effect still persists.
Can you please suggest if we should consult a specialist or get any tests done?

Brief Answer:
Suggestive of BPPV.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your father's symptoms and they are suggestive of BPPV- benign paroxysmal positional vertigo.

This is due to minor dysfunction in the ear.

He is on correct medications. I expect improvement in 10-14 days.

As of now, there is no need of further tests or seeing a specialist.

If the symptoms persist for more than 10 days, then, you may visit an ENT doctor or a neurologist.

I hope my reply has helped you.

I would be pleased to answer, if you have any follow up queries or if you require any further information.

Thank you Dr. XXXXXXX I forgot to mention that my father feels like some fluid rushing around in brain when he gets up (sitting position) from sleep or turn sides during sleep.

Can you please confirm if this is also part of the symptoms for minor ear disfunction?

Thanks,
XXXX
