Brief Answer:
I would suggest an audiometric evaluation

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

The cause of vertigo needs to be evaluated. Sudden increase in blood pressure could be a possible cause. The blood pressure needs to be measured on three different occasions and if it is detected to remain increased, medical treatment of the same is required.

Apart from that, I would suggest an audiometry to be done. At advanced ages like your father's, sensorinerual degenerative process could be responsible for vertigo. Diagnosis of the same will help in administering suitable treatment. Please talk to an ENT doctor about the audiometry.

Let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

In old age its generally remain BP high or low or we also need to investigate why BP is getting higher.

Audiometry is generally suggested for Hearing issues is hearing problem can also cause vertigo.

Brief Answer:
High BP is more frequent. Inner ear responsible for balance.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking back.

Most often, with age, the blood vessels get hardened and since the compliance of the blood vessels falls, the blood pressure rises. It needs to be treated in order to avoid development of further complications. In old age, low blood pressure can sometimes occur due to lack of nutrients. In such a case good food would be the solution.

Our inner ear has a part called cochlea which is responsible for hearing as well as maintaining balance. With age, degenerative changes can affect the vestibulocochlear apparatus and can give rise to vertigo. An audiometry will help in finding out if that is the case.

Hope that helps.
