Question : Active 87 year old female tennis player developed Vertigo about 6 to 8 weeks ago including dizziness, loss of balance and occasional double vision. Participate in many online recommended exercises with no results. Every once in a while have a day totally free of symptoms.

Vertigo is most often caused by an abnormality in the inner ear. The exercises you read about are to reposition the small crystals in the ear. If this is not working then I suggest that you see an ear, nose and throat specialist or a neurologist. Doctors in both of those specialties can do some in office maneuvers that often help with vertigo. They may also be able to off you some medications that can give you some relief. If they suspect anything more serious like a tumor they can evaluate you for that as well.

Have had thorough Ear, nose throat exam. All negative - no problems. Do not have crystals. Also had complete Eye exam. No problems. Was hoping for some additional insight.

Hello,
If the ENT doctor is sure that you do not have a problem with the crystals in the inner ear then other possibilities include Meniere's disease (you would also have some hearing loss with this), toxicity, migraines, vascular problem or tumor. I suggest that you see a neurologist to help sort this out. You may need an MRI of the brain to rule out some of the possibilities.
I hope you get an answer soon, but this is not a problem that can easily be sorted out without seeing specialists.
