default
Posted on Mon, 8 Dec 2014
Question: My daughter had no issues till yesterday night. She had her food (which was normal rice and dal) and went to sleep. Suddenly at 3 am she woke up and started vomiting. The half digested food was vomited and then she went to sleep again. Today morning again as soon as she woke up, she vomited. Only water came out as she dint had the breakfast until then. There is no symptom on why this happened. Any suggestion. She does have light fever now but not much. What should I do?

Brief Answer:
Looks like viral diarrhea is strating

Detailed Answer:
Hi...this looks like she is having a prodrome (starting stage) of viral diarrhea. It will initially start with vomiting and then she might have diarrhea too.

Unless the kid's having low urine output or very dull or excessively sleepy or blood in motion or green bilious vomiting...you need not worry. Once it starts it will take 5-7 days to completely get better.

For vomiting you can use Syrup Ondansetron as prescribed by your pediatrician (as it is a prescription drug).

For fever - Paracetamol can be given in the dose of 15mg/kg/dose every 4-6th hourly that too only if fever is more than 100F.

If diarrhea starts - I suggest you use zinc supplements (Z&D drops 1ml once daily for 14 days) & ORS (Each small packet mixed in 200ml of potable water and keep giving sip by sip) as hydration is very important and crucial part of treatment.
