Posted on Tue, 9 Dec 2014
Question: Hello doctor, my kid is now 1.5 years old and had fever since yesterday morning. We consulted the doctor and they mentioned it's a viral fever. The recommended babygesic and meftal-p alternatively through the day. But even after that, fever is just not subsiding. And he has a new symptom of vomiting from yesterday night. Request your suggestion on what to do. Attached report. Would be great if I can talk to explain these me in detail. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Viral fever likely

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for posting on healthcaremagic. I have gone through the prescription and think that your doctor is right in suspecting viral fever. These viruses are always around and we can catch them anytime. Such infections do not respond to antibiotics and recover spontaneously in 5-10 days. The mainstay of treatment is keeping the temperature in control. Meftal is more efficient than babygesic and should be preferred. You can also sponge the baby tepidly with lukewarm water for the same. In case of vomiting give the child Ondem syrup 2.5 ml half an hour before feeds or as required. Also add Syrup Ascoril LS 2.5 ml once daily for a few days. You would have to be patient and soon things would be fine. But if the fever persists more than 7 days, you will have to ask your doctor to get some tests done to rule out typhoid.
