Posted on Thu, 14 Jan 2016
Question: I had viral fever 2 months ago along with severe pain in my joints. Fever was there for 2-3 days but pains still persist in all joints specially in feet and leg joint. I find it very difficult to walk and move in stairs.I asked a physician 2 weeks back and he prescribed me voveran SR for 2 weeks. I took and I was feeling better but when I left that medicine again pain started. Physican told me that voveran affects kidney if taken for longer time. Can you tell me what is the problem and what should i do?

Brief Answer:
Is it REactive arthritis

Detailed Answer:
Good evening

Thank you for writing on health care magic

I have gone through your history and the problem and it seems the problem has been going on for quite a while now. I doubt the pain killers will have an effect on you at this stage, as you are already past it. I would like to ask you a few more queries before guiding you further:

Firstly I would like to know if your hand joints are also involved...Do they have swelling as well or is it just the lower limbs

2. DO you have swelling in the knees as well or is it just pain?

3. Any associated backache or neck pain?

4. How do you feel in the mornings when you wake up. Is it better or worse?

5. Did you carry out any blood tests..Like ESR, CRP, CBC??

See there is a possibility it is reactive arthritis, that is arthritis which starts after a viral or bacterial infection and causes swelling of the lower limbs joints. It normally subsides in a few weeks time. The other possibility is start of another arthritis, which is affecting your joints. Examination of the joints will be a must here

Do let me know your queries and your location as well. WOuld guide you further from here

Brief Answer:
Arthritis

Detailed Answer:
Good evening

Well, yes at that time there was chikungunya and dengue going around and a lot of viral related arthritis which are usually not tested. Chikungunya is one virus which can cause joint pains and leave an impact on the joints till late. It usually takes it s time to go. We normally give a short course of steroids if the pain killers havnt helped them.

But one thing I fear is, it should not have triggered some other serious arthritis, like Rheumatoid or REactive. Lot of times these viruses trigger some process inside which can go on for long time.

What i would suggest is, carry out the following blood tests:

1. CBC
2. ESR
3. CRP
4. Rheumatoid FActor
5. Anti CCP antibody
6. Liver function tests

If possible , do consult a rheumatologist with these reports as joint examination is a must before concluding anything

HOpe the information was useful

Do let me know for more queries

Good evening
Thank for these valuable information. Can't you please prescribe me some medicine by looking at my symptoms.
If not steroid any ayurvedic medicine that can be helpful in my case and do not cause any side effects.

Good evening there

Well, the thing is I can prescribe you some medications but that doesnt solve the issue. You have already taken pain killers for a while without much result.

Secondly, it is better we treat the problem than just the symptoms. You are educated and I hope you understand cause if we pick up your condition early, it will help you in the long run.

You can try ayurvedic. We normally dont prescribe ayurvedic as it also has some form of steroids in it and it will mask the symptoms leaving the condition undiagnosed.

I hope yo understand our limitations. It would be more of a GP practice to just treat the symptoms without understanding whats going wrong in you.

Do let me know for more queries. But my recommendation is to get your blood tests done and revert back to me. If you want , I can guide you to a rheumatologist around your home as well
