Question : Is there an OTC topical cream for the relief of burning and itching from vulvovaginal candidiasis.

Brief Answer: yes there are options Detailed Answer: HI, thanks for using healthcare magic The itching occurs due to inflammation from the infection. The itching and scratching associated with vaginal yeast infections causes small excoriations (very small cuts) in the vaginal skin that causes the burning. If the urge to itch is treated then the burning would also resolve. Treatment can involve vaginal ovules or creams or an oral tablet (diflucan). The topical creams or ovules that you can obtain over the counter are: (1)monistat (miconazole) (2)vagistat (3)femstat (butaconazole)- used nightly for 3 nights (4)gyne-lotrimin, mycelex (both of these contain clotrimazole- duration of use would vary according to strength of clotrimazole) These creams would be applied at night. In addition, if you can obtain a mild topical steroid cream to apply in the vaginal region for 1 to 2 days, it would also help with the itching and burning till the full effect of the vaginal yeast creams kick in.
