Question: Hi,
I'm a 66 yr old male 5ft10in, 160 lbs with 6 lb weight loss(unexplained over 2 mos. Ive had watery diarrhea for 2 days and had a CT(abdomen w/wo contrast 6 mos ago for flank pain) that was normal. My blood work( metabolic profile, cbc with differential was normal except for mildly low rbc(4.16, hgb-12.9, hct 38.4). I feel fine but was concerned about loss and pancreatic cancer, lymphoma. My urine has been a little darker perhaps because of the heat andv my bilirubin is normal, I also has a recent(6mo)colonoscopy egd and lung ct all negative. Thank you!

Brief Answer:
Pancreatic cancer would be reflected in CT.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

The symptoms you are describing are mostly suggestive of recurrent gastroenteritis which is the bacterial infection of the intestine. If not treated properly it would recur again and again.

Stool analysis and culture are required to confirm the diagnosis. Management is with antibiotics (usually a combination of Ciprofloxacin and Metronidazole) for which you will need a prescription.

Pancreatic cancer would be reflected in CT scan. If colonoscopy is normal the only pathology left is recurrent untreated enteritis.

Thank you!

the ct was 6 mos ago. Is there anyway I could be symptomatic for pancreatic cancer this soon? Would my labs be off if I had C?

Brief Answer:
Follow up answer.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

No, it can't be pancreatic cancer.
Definitely yes the parameters would not be normal in case of pancreatic carcinoma.
All I would suggest you is to take a 7 days course of antibiotic.

Thanks
