Question: I am 61 year old male and my diabetes is 30 years old . I am insulin dependent and take a doze of 18 units before breakfast and 16 units before dinner .
I also take orally Janymet 50Mg/500mg -twice daily
Cardace 2.5
Revital
Etizola .25 (When I cannot sleep)
I have , all of a sudden , since last 10 days feeling extreme weakness and pain in my calves and thighs and feet . I cannot go to sleep immediately and suffer uneasiness for several hours . This was never a problem all these years.
I am worried if this could be due to regular use of Etizola .25 or something else ?

Brief Answer:
It is not due to etizola, evaluation is needed, janymet may be cause

Detailed Answer:
Hello Mr. XXXX,

Thanks for writing to us.

I prescribed etizolam in my patients very frequently. I have never seen such side effect. As well as literature does not describe such problem with etizolam.

In my opinion possibilities are:

- In Janymet (sitagliptin and metformin combination) sitagliptin frequently causes such type of pain in body and and extremities

- Vitamin B12 deficiency

- Vitamin D deficiency

- Diabetic neuropathy

- Local Muscular problem

- Spinal cord compression/spine pathology

- Varicose vein

- Deep vein thrombosis

If all other factors are rules out with examination and necessary investigations sitagliptin is likely cause and your doctor may replace the drug with other molecule.

Hope I have answered your query, I will be happy to help further.

Regards,
Dr.Chintan Solanki.
