Question : I am 51 yrs old, menopausal, last blood test was at 28, I had a transvaginal ultra sound and my endometrial lining is 13 mm. I have gained 15 pounds over three months, have severe bloating and tired. I am a very active women who takes pretty good care of body with exercise and eating right. Went for a follow up today and OBJYN doesn't feel a biopsy is necessary. Thinks I have IBS. I have had cervical polyps as well as clear discharge and mycroscpic blood in urine. Should I get a second opinion.

Brief Answer:
Recommended second opinion regarding endometrial biopsy

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.

1. I do transvaginal ultrasound scans regularly in patients like you in clinical practice.

2. Research has been done on the the recommendation of biopsy following measurement of endometrial thickness after transvaginal ultrasound to make diagnosis of associated gynecological conditions.

3. In recent medical literature, it is said that endometrial biopsy is recommended in any woman at your age who has endometrial thickness more than 11 mm even without vaginal bleeding.

In conclusion, you should get another opinion regarding endometrial biopsy since your scan shows endometrial thickness 13 mm and this requires investigation.

Hope your query is answered.
