Question : I have been traveling in South XXXXXXX 2 months ago I took two 500mg does of metrocaps for 5 days to treat giadaria. Today I was diagnosed with A Histoliticia ameobas and was prescribed 1 400mg dose of Albendazol. I am a symptomatic aside from yellow stool and probably have a liver abcess. Is this a sufficient dose. If not what should I go pick up? The doctors are being very resistant to giving me more antibiotics because they a free and I am not a national citizen.
Brief Answer:
Metronidazole is superior to Albendazole in your case.
Detailed Answer:
Hi Mam,
I understand your concern.
Albendazole is not an effective drug for Amoebiasis with hepatic abscess.
Metronidazole is an excellent drug which cures both intestinal as well as hepatic amoebiasis.
This drug along with Iodoquinol will help to prevent recurrences of liver abscess.
The standard prescribed dosages are as below.
Metronidazole 750 mg PO q8hr for 7 days.
Iodoquinol 650 mg PO PC TID for 20 days.
Please note these drugs have to be taken under strict medical supervision.
Thank you.

Thank you. I went back to the clinic and asked why thy prescribed only 1 400mg tablet of Albendazole. They said because the only found a few casings. I went to a pharmacy and they said Albendazole would not treat this kind of amoeba at all. Does the Aldendazole even treat Ameobas?
I can't get the lodo- here.
What is another name for Paramyosin that I mind find it in ecuadaor or another follow up med for the metro that I might find here?

Brief Answer:
Take Flagyl and Humatin
Detailed Answer:
Hi Mam,
I understand your concern.
Albendazole cannot treat amoebas .
In case if you cannot find Iodo, ignore it.Metro alone is enough.
You can find Metro as Flagyl or Flagyl ER.
Paromomycin is effective only in treating intestinal amoebiasis but not liver amoebiasis.
Paromomycin is available as Humatin.
Post your further queries if any.
Thank you.
