Suggest Treatment For White Spots On Legs And Hands

default
Posted on Fri, 1 Jul 2016
Question: My wife was diagnosed with Vitilligo in May/June 2015. She had some white spots on legs and hands. She consulted Dermatologist in US. Doctor said that there is no cure and suggested for some light therapy or steriod creams. but we did not go with any kind of treatment here.

In Around Oct/Nov, white spots looks like stopped spreading but now (in may) again she started seeing the new white spots on face and other parts of the body.

Can you please suggest the best treatment to treat the white spots on the face ?

The above product claims that the color will be restored and will start shading out after 5-7 days. Can you suggest if this can be used on face to cover white spots?

Is it okay for her to cover the patches with the above products on the face, will there be any side effects using this ?

Thank you

Brief Answer:
These products are safe

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query.
I've checked the link.

These products are camouflage agents which are used to cover the white patches.
It's safe to use them but these cannot be used as as a cure.

Although vitiligo cannot be cured but can only be controlled.
She can use ointment Tacrolimus 0.03% to be applied in night and Mometasone ointment to be applied in day.
Try this for a month.
If the lesions increase in number then oral steroids might be required.

Let me know if you have any other doubts.
Thank you.

Thank you for suggesting ointment Tacrolimus 0.03% and Mometasone ointment to for Vitilligo patches. But I will not be able to get this unless I go to the specialist.

Meanwhile, in December 2015, when My wife visited Dermatologist , Doctor has prescribed "Desonide Cream 0.05%" for the Dry(little white) patches on her face.

currently she just started seeing the white patch on the face which is slowly losing the color. Can "Desonide Cream 0.05%" be applied on the newly starting white patches on the face? Can this stop spreading the white patch?

Do you recommend any Multi-vitamin (over the counter medication) which might improve vitilligo spreading?

Thank you

Also, one of the doctor previously suggested to take oral steroids to stop spreading vitilligo. Do you also suggest oral Steroids along with the the Tacrolimus?

Thanks again so much for your expert advise on vitilligo

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the follow up.
I checked the link.
She can use this multivitamin.
Steroids are used only when the lesions are progressing.
Weekly pulse therapy of steroids is best where high dose of steroid is given orally on weekly basis.
You can discuss this with your doctor.
