Suggest Treatment For Whooping Cough In A Child

My daughter is 2 years 8 months old. She developed some cold and throat ulcers during December end. Doctor prescribed augmentin to her along with maxtra-p and sumol plus if fever develops. She almost recovered within 5 days. Now for last three days again she has been coughing which is mostly dry and has become very frequent wherein she pukes also. Her eyes become watery and she feels very tired. Her appetite has been lost to a great extent. She doesn't eat much. She has become very fussy and irritated. Doctor has diagnosed it as a whooping cough and has prescribed some cough syrups like prospan, souventus etc. I almost cry when I look at her...she has become very dull and tired. She hardly eats and this makes me very worried. Please suggest is it the right medication. Is it very serious? Why is it not going?
It is just another viral infection.

Thanks for asking on Health care magic.
I have gone carefully through your query. The present episode is likely to be independent of the previous one. If your daughter has been receiving immunizations properly, she should have received the doses of DPT which protects against pertussis or whooping cough. So, I do not think that your doctor has spoken correctly. The present episode is likely to be just another viral infection which should resolve spontaneously in 5-7 days irrespective of the use of antibiotics.
The mainstay of treatment would be steam inhalation. Also give her cetirizine syrup once daily for a few days.
Please be patient. Things would be back to normal soon.
