default
Posted on Wed, 3 May 2017
Question: Hello. My name is XXXX. I suffer with severe migraines and I have been taking Tramodol for 8+ years. When the company I worked for abruptly shut down last April I lost my insurance however I had refills for a few months after that. I eventually got other insurance that my doctor stopped accepting. My refills have run out and I've noticed numbness in my face, hands and lips, I have dizzy spells, I have joint pain among other things. Not taking the Tramodol is the only change in my daily routine. I feel extremely bad and it's effecting my ability to work. What can I do? Please help!!

Brief Answer:
Tramadol withdrawal symptoms and treatment

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX, thanks for asking from HealthcareMagic.

I can understand your concern. You were taking tramadol for long duration and now, it has been discontinued. The tramadol is an opioid drug. Sudden discontinuation can cause withdrawal symptoms just like you are experiencing.

Usually withdrawal symptoms disappear in few weeks on its own. Sometimes, these symptoms persist and cause persistent anxiety, palpitation, lack of appetite, tingling /numbness sensations, dizziness, lethargy. This needs treatment

For treatment, you can follow few tips

- Start exercise and meditation to calm you and increase energy.

- You can take coffee/tea to control lethargy.

- Consult psychiatrist for gradual tapering of tramadol instead of abrupt discontinuation.

- Take tablet Domperidone for nausea and vomiting after prescription.

- Take tablet Ibuprofen or acetaminophen for muscle aches, joint pain, after proper prescription.

- Take tablet Clonidine and clonazepam for anxiety, insomnia and sweating after proper prescription.

- The numbness will subside along with relief in anxiety.

- Also drink plenty of water, take vitamin supplements to detox your body.

Hope it will help you. If any doubt, do let me know.
Thanks. Take care.
