Suggest Treatment For Withdrawal Symptoms Of Opioids

Posted on Wed, 13 Jul 2016
Question: I have taken acetaminophen with coedine( over the counter. Canada) for 3 years ...... 10 -12 pills a day. I went cold turkey about 4 or 5 weeks ago. Two symptoms are persistent. Periodic back pain .... Terrible & not touched by ibuprofen (400 ml). The jittery brain that just can't quite focus. How long can I expect this to last? Sometimes in the evening I am less jittery but by the next morning it's back. I take15 mg of Temazapam every night. Could that be the problem & why I'm not seeng progress?

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and thanks for your question.

You are having acute opioid withdrawal. You were previously taking very large amounts of opioids and now your body doesn't have them, so you are withdrawing. It may take up to a couple weeks for withdrawal symptoms to go away. Typically people who are addicted to prescription opioids have a very difficult time going off cold turkey. You may need to seek out a psychiatrist for opioid addiction maintenance therapy with methadone or Subutex.
