I am 48 years old and moderately active, but also somewhat overweight. Recently, I've begun feeling regular pain and stiffness in my elbows.. and occasionally my wrists. The wrist stiffness goes away once I've started moving them. The elbow pain is mild and chronic. I don't do heavy lifting or have improper posture..etc. So, What could I be looking at here. Thanks in advance for your reply. Have a good weekend.
Needs X-ray neck spine and some replacement therapy
Detailed Answer:
Hi! Welcome to health care magic! Thanks for sharing your concerns with us. We will try to help you in best way possible.
First of all, it is sad to know what you had gone through. Based on the history you have shared, it seems as if you are suffering from cervical spondylitis as stiffness and tingling in elbows can reflect the motor nerve involvement in posterior compartments of arms and forearm.
It usually presents with paraesthesia too but variable clinical presentations are also present. So work up should start up with a detailed neurological examination of arms with both sensory and motor systems and muscle reflexes by your doctor. Then a simple X-ray cervical spine can rule out any obvious disc compression or lesion and that can be managed accordingly by a neurosurgeon.
Other possibilities can be deficiencies of vitamin B12, D3 and Calcium. You can either do their check levels or start replacements and get the levels after wards. It may also start to show significant improvement in your symptoms.
Thyroid function tests and blood sugars should also be tested at least once. For a better outcome, pharmacological measures like muscle relaxants and pain killers can be combined with Physiotherapy and will be of much better outcomes.
Wishing you a speedy recovery. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.
Regards. .
