default
Posted on Tue, 25 Aug 2015
Question: What do you do for yellow jacket stings? We have already iced it, used baking soda and water, and taken Benadryl and an IBprophen. The pain is subsiding a bit but not fully. The sting in the fingers and the elbow is still prevalent. Remedies?

Brief Answer:
Taking steroids will help.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The persistent pain and stinging at the site of sting can be decreased by icing the area frequently. In addition to all the measures you have taken you can apply calamine lotion or aloe vera gel on the area. Take an oral steroid like methyl prednisolone after getting it prescribed from your physician. This will decrease the inflammation and stinging.
You can also apply 1% hydrocortisone ointment on the area which is available over the counter. It will take at least 72 hours for the acute symptoms to subside.
I hope this answers your query.
