Question : Iam a 58 year old male who has the urge to urinate but cannot empty my bladder all the way each time. I have some lower back pain but no fever. I recently took cipro for a UTI? What do I have.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Most likely you have urinary tract infection caused by some obstacle. At your age most probable is prostate enlargement however other issues like prostate cancer or bladder cancer need to be ruled out.
With enlarged prostate urine stream is weak. All other mentioned by you symptoms can be caused by any urinary tract issue. Back pain indicates that the infection has reached kidneys.
I suggest you to consult urologist with this issue. Urine analysis and prostate ultrasound should be done at first. You should also have PSA level checked.
Ciprofloxacine which you have started taking can help with the infection but it wont solve the reason of it.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.

What can I do until my appointment? Are there some dietary or exercises I can do before I'm seen by doctor. Will cranberry juice help? Can even get the sugar free kind?

Detailed Answer:
Continue ciprofloxacine intake twice a day. Drink more mineral water and try to urinate as frequent as possible (urine flushes bacteria from the urinary tract). Yes, cranberries juice is a very good idea. No need to take sugar free, just regular one.
