Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing to us.
Generalised
pruritus could be due to multiple causes like scabies, eczema,
dry skin,
thyroid disorder, post menopausal
hormonal changes, chronic liver or kidney disorder. In your case, thyroid disorder as well as age related dryness of skin or eczema could be the underlying cause for itch.
Below mentioned suggestions might help to some extent in relieving the itch
1) Apply olive oil /coconut oil prior to bathing. Use lukewarm water to bathe. Use a mild soap like
cetaphil. Pat your skin dry and immediately apply a moisturiser meant for dry skin to seal in the moisture. Use a moisturiser in night too.
2) Take tablet levocetrizine twice in a day.
3) Apply a mild steroid cream over itchy red rashes if any.
If these steps do not help, you need to
consult a dermatologist to look for a specific underlying cause and treat likewise.
If you have specific skin lesions, you may attach pics depicting those lesions. Also I want to know
If your skin is too dry
If you have dry red rashes
If you have
severe itching in night and certain areas like finger webs, wrists, under arms, innerside of thighs, abdomen have small itchy red excoriated lesions.
Answering these queries may help in looking for a specific cause for your itch.
Hope this helped.
Take care
