Suggest Treatment To Excel Clots Through Menstruation After Abortion

default
Posted on Fri, 21 Nov 2014
Question: my wife had medical abortion on 2nd october 2014. There was bleeding and cramping on that day. My gynac manually removed the sach. There was no bleeding subsequently except for blood spotting. We had a pelvis examination on 13th October which suggested a thick and heterogenous endometrium with with an echogenic clot and some fluid within. Our gynac suggested her to take primon-N 5 mg for 10 days to expel the clots through periods. Please suggest me if this is not sucessful . I am really concerned as we have 2 year old baby at home. Is the situation worrying?

Brief Answer:
Not worrisome.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The presence of clots in the uterine cavity after an abortion is a usual finding. This is not worrisome if the clot is not a large one and there is no active bleeding going on. The progesterone tablets that your gynecologist has given will prevent the further bleeding and formation of any clots. After your wife stops taking the tablets she will have her periods which will expel all the shed off endometrium and the remaining clots.
You can continue with the treatment given and wait for her periods.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

Thank you for your prompt reply. The clot size is 10.6 mm. I am not sure if the same is small or not. What are the chances of this line of treatment being successful. Do you think we might have to consider any medical procedure in case if she does not have any periods. Also ideally when should her period start after medicine course is over. We are going out of XXXXXXX on 7th November for 1 month so I dont know my further course of action.

Brief Answer:
Usually periods start in 4-5 days.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
Since there are no retained products of conception in the uterus you need not worry. After finishing the medicine her periods should start in next 4-5 days.
Usually no other procedure is needed. It is successful in more than 95% cases. You can plan for your visit without worrying.
Hope my answer is helpful.

Thank you madam. I wish to know that in case if the retained products are not flushed out in next one week, then can I go for future action after 1 month. I mean would the delay, if any have any adverse effect?

Brief Answer:
No adverse effect other than bleeding.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
The further action can be taken after one month if there is no irregular or heavy bleeding in between. It will not have any long term detrimental effect on your wife's health.
Regards.
