Question: I am 58 , female and was slim and active most of my life. I have had fibromyalgia since the mid eighties which has generally been brought under control in the last two years with the use of Cymbalta. I also have osteoarthritis in the cuboid bone of my right foot and also my right knee. i cannot walk very far without pain and limping and a big day out causes havoc. it waxes and wanes from minor to excrutiating. Fortunately once off my feet unless it is a long day there is little pain. I am under a rheumatologist. So my mobility has been hampered and my wight increasing and my muscle tone diminishing. I need some exercises that can help with weight loss and muscle tone that dont involve my foot. So cycling and walking are out. pool is okay but still seems to aggravate my foot. I really want to give myself the best chance of minimising the effects of my osteo.

Brief Answer:
Reduce weight and continue minor exercises as advised by your doctor.......

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.
If your weight is high then if you are reducing just 10%, it will have more impact on your health due to osteoarthritis.
Take high vegetables and very low fatty diet.
Have proper exercise schedule like exercise for 1 hour a day, 3 days a week which include aerobic walking (10 minutes), strength training (15 minutes), a second aerobic phase (10 minutes), and a cool-down (5 minutes).
Do quadriceps muscle strengthening exercise by asking your treating doctor.
stand with your back to a wall, with feet shoulder-width apart. Then go back against the wall, placing your feet out in front of you as far as you comfortably can. Bend at the knees, put your hands on your waist, and slide with your spine, maintaining contact with the wall until you reach a sitting position.
Hope these all will help you a lot.
