Pigmentation treatment

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic

I am Dr. Kakkar. I have gone through your query. I would like to gather some more information from you in order to be able to guide you better

>Are they flat or raised?
>Do they extend to the cheek area/malar area?
>Can you upload a picture?

Sun protection is an essential part of treatment in the management of pigmentation over face because face is always exposed to the sun. I would suggest you to use a broad spectrum sunscreen, that which offers both UV A as well as UV B protection, throughout the day. Neutrogena dry touch ultra sheer sunscreen is available OTC, is broad spectrum and should be used throughout the day.

You can use a cream containing one or more of the skin lightening agents e.g glycolic acid, kojic acid, arbutin, hydroquinone, azaleic acid etc once or twice daily to lighten the pigmentation. While glycolic acid exfoliates existing pigment; kojic acid, hydroquinone, azaleic acid etc inhibit melanogenesis/synthesis of new pigment and therefore have a synergistic/additive action when used together, owing to different mechanism of action.

In your case you can use:
>Kojic cream (2% kojic acid). You can use it twice daily. In the morning before sunscreen application and at night before going to bed.
>Melawash face wash (6% glycolic acid). You could use it once daily at night.

While glycolic acid in Melawash face wash would exfoliate existing pigment, kojic acid would inhibit synthesis of new pigment. Therefore using them together would exert additive action in fading away pigmentation.

Along with topical treatment, you could also take a few chemical peeling sessions (6-8) from a dermatologist. The commonly performed peels for facial pigmentation are glycolic acid peel, kojic acid peel and TCA (Trichloroacetic acid) peel.

Hope this helps
