Question: I've been asking about my chances of finding work as a nurse knowing that I have hep c. The last answer that I received is I should try and reverse my Hep c active condition. This is easier said than done. Treatment is very expensive, especially for someone without insurance, like myself. Do you have any suggestions? XXXXXXX P.

Brief Answer:
can't refuse employment because of hepatitis

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Employment rules and laws are state dependent. As there are no legal experts working on this platform and doctor's may not be able to provide information you looking for, I shall give my opinion. As per my thoughts, I don't think any one can discriminate against you just because you have hepatitis C. If you follow universal precautions you would not pose any risk to other people.
You might be asked not to assist in surgeries with high risk. Other than this I do not foresee any problems.
If any one refuses I don't think it would be legal. You should try to get treatment not for employment purposes but for health reasons and prevent chronic liver diseases. It is justifiable to delay treatment till it becomes a financially viable option
