Question : My vit d level was 11.8 in XXXXXXX i just found out and an on weekly po replacement 50,000 units. Is this aggressive enough, should i be retesting my blood levels
I went to my pmd because was feeling exhausted and weak and off balance, i was crying constantly and could only sleep! My doctor had me have a carotid us wich was normal and an echocardiogram which im waiting to hear back on. I feel better for day or so after po weekly replacement but then seems to fade away. I was hoping i could get this replenished asap because the more i learn about the importance of vit d i think its causing me many enotional and physical problems

                                    Brief Answer:
Vitamin D deficiency
Detailed Answer:
Good day,
Noted your cocern. There is some evidence that Vitamin D deficiency is linked to depression, however, the evidence is weak. Vitamin D is largely linked to muscal and bone health.
Vitamin D of 11.8 ng is low. Ideally it should be more than 30.
If you take 50000 units a week for 8 weeks, and then 2000 units a day, in 2-3 months, your vitamin D should be more than 30. This is a good and aggressive enought to improve Vitamin D levels. You should also try to get some sun light exposure of 20 minutes a day as well. Sun light is a powerful anti depressant, and the effect may be mediated by sunlight improving Vitamin D levels.

                                    Brief Answer:
3-4 months. 4 months better
Detailed Answer:
Well, even if you take large doses of Vitamin D, body will only absorb what it need. More than 50000 units a week probably has no extra benefiit. But you will have to take Calcium along with vitamin D for maximum benefits.
I would recommend the next blood test only after 3-4 months.

                                    Brief Answer:
Every day.
Detailed Answer:
Hi, you should be taking at least 1200 mg of calcium a day ( diet included). So if you are taking reasonably good diet with milk and milk products, one tablet of 600 mg calcium a day should suffice. If your milk intake is poor, best to take 2 tablets of calcium ( 1200 mg) a day.
