Suggest Ways To Lower Cholesterol Levels

I am 37 years old male. I regularly go to gym and following diet (Food with Millets, Dry nuts) from last two years.
Now, I have a blood pressure of 140/90.
LDL cholesterol of 163 and triglycerides 228 (I have almost the same reading from last two years). My doctor says this might be genetic because I don't have any lifestyle issues.
My doctor prescribed atorvastatin 10mg and Telmisartan 20mg.
Do I need to take statin drug to lower my cholesterol? I read on internet, need to use this for life long once started and side effects.
Please guide me.
Thanks in advance.
Yes,this drugs might be needed to be taken for life long.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,
I have gone through the reports you attached.
Your HDL is very low with high TC/HDL ratio (normally it should be between 1 to 3.5) and Total cholesterol, triglyceride (TAG) and LDL are significantly elevated (known as dyslipidemia) while other cholesterol (VLDL) is normal.
HDL is good cholesterol – higher, the better.
Rest of other cholesterols (TC,TAG,LDL,VLDL) are bad cholesterol – lower, the better.
To reduce your TC/HDL ratio and triglycerides along with to increase HDL follow these guidelines:
- Avoid direct sugars
- Avoid fried snacks, bakery items
- Have ample of vegetable salads- at least 1 bowlful cut raw vegetables like cucumber, tomato, carrot and vegetables which you can eat raw.
- Snacks should contain healthy nuts like almonds or walnuts and a few dry fruits.
- Avoid soft drinks or hard drinks(alcohol) and smoking cessation.
- Simple Chapati and steamed rice or rotis made up of different whole grains should be your staple diet.
- Skimmed milk and milk items made up of skimmed milk are good to check on cholesterol
- Egg white is fine but avoid egg yellow means egg yolk.
-vitamin B3 (niacin) increases HDL cholesterol.
Apart from dietary measures, you should also start hypolipidemic drugs like statins (will reduce total cholesterol) and fibrates (will reduce triglycerides) together for which you must do regular follow-up at your treating physician.
This drugs might be needed to be taken for life long if some one has genetic or hereditary cause but the important thing is to monitor heart function by periodic doing ECG,2D echo of heart.
You can continue with Tab.Telmisartan 20 mg with salt restricted diet to control blood pressure.
Hope this detailed answer will help to understand it clearly.

1) Yes you can continue your gym activities with casein protein supplements.
Although there is no need of any specific exercise,
You can do normal walking or slow running for about 45 minutes to 1 hour would be sufficient from which initial 20 minutes of walk goes in burning sugar and then the fat start burning which should happen for another 20 to 25 minutes through a stable, moderate speed of 5 to 6 km/hour.
2) No there is no chance of any drug interaction with ayurvedic or homoeopathy drugs. You can take those while taking allopathy drugs.
3) Yes,there is no issue with seacod-fish oil supplement capsules with flax seeds with all these hypolipidemic and anti-hypertensive drugs.
Hope this will clear your doubts.
