Question: I am noticing that my 4.5 months old baby girl has started teething. I am seeing the front 2 bottom teeth coming up. She is getting cranky and fussy and not able to feed properly. She is chewing her fingers again and again. How can I make her feel better?

Brief Answer:
Unless the child looks sick or lethargic, you need not worry.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

Your child is teething slightly early but that is ok and not something to worry about. It is not unusual for a child at such a stage to be a bit cranky and fussy. The adequacy of feeds would reflect through the number of times urine is passed. If the child is passing more urine more than 6 times over a period of 24 hours, and if the child is not lethargic, I do not think that you need to worry.

Breast feeding is the best food for your child. In case she is on formula feed, just continue it. I would not suggest something extra. The child at this stage will be putting anything and everything in her mouth. It is the child's way of getting the taste and feel of things. Nothing needs to be done about it. Just keep any harmful things away from the child. The rest would be supportive and would depend upon the specific problem that she is facing.
