Question: I am diabetic and have been prescribed cefuroxime. What is the best way to manage my insulin intake?

No adjustment

Detailed Answer:
There is no known major effect of cefuroxime on blood glucoses. Some antibiotics tend to elevate blood sugars. But cefuroxime is not a known major one to do so. So when my patients take cefuroxime I advise them to continue their diabetes medications including insulin at the same doses. However it is important to monitor glucoses regularly because sometimes infection itself tends to raise blood sugars. Based on results of such monitoring insulin doses can be adjusted
