Question : Hi,I have nerve damage to my left foot due to Bunion and Hammertoe surgery.I also have hip and Buttock pain if walking very far.I have taken Hydrocodone right after surgery and when on vacation.It seems to b the only drug that helps my pain as I cannot take NSAIDs.I realize how controlled this drug is because of the addiction factor.No one has prescribed it for me on an ongoing basis that I feel I need.I am a 73 year old female.So far I have found relief by taking one of my husbands prescription tabs.every other day.How can I get a prescription of my own.?Thanks XXXXXXX

You are right in pointing down that hydrocodone is tightly controlled medication and nobody offers it is first line of treatment when you are in pain due to fear of addiction.
Having said this, the medicine is not mean to under control who need it genuinely. Since you have the definite history of nerve damage and pain I think you are the right person to get prescription for hydrocodone.
You just need to discuss the matter with your pain doctor as he is well experienced to understand your suffering and will prescribe accordingly. In cas ehe do not have sufficient expertise he may refer you to nearby pain clinic or other doctor. In other words communicating your needs to your doctor is the only thing you need to do to get your prescription.
