Question : I have been suffering with pain for many years. I have disc herniations from c5 thru t1 and I've lost almost all of the soft tissue between the vertebrae which are now fusing together. I have lost a ton of weight and lost interest in everything. I've been through pain management and all of the treatments available and aside from surgery, I have no more options. I just want some relief. I have no clue anymore what to do and I'm wasting away in my apartment which I haven't left now in almost two years. Please give me a hint. XXXX

I have tried a lot of medications. IV toradol provided the most relief of all including narcotic prescriptions. The narcotics worked but I was unable to take an adequate dose because they make me itch. The only one that did not was Opana which I tried once and it worked very well.

Brief Answer:
A few options.

Detailed Answer:
Cannot say in your particular case even with examination, with the previous surgeries it gets very complex. There are several things that should be tried in someone with c spine disease in any case.

First, physical therapy to improve mobility. Second, ff someone is not getting out of the apartment, this implies other issues in addition to the physical ones (social connections, mobility, insurance, job, relationships, probable depression, and many others potentially).

Third, there are quite a lot of medicines that damp down the spine and nerves. They all run the risk of sedation from the same reason they work on pain (damping down nerves). Some of these include the muscle relaxant methyl carbamol, the antidepressant amitryptiline, and anti-epileptic pills gabapentin and pre-gabalin. The antidepressant cymbalta is another drug that works on pain, sometimes.
You seem to have had a good response to anti-inflammatories. Toradol comes as a pill also.
There is also other anti-inflammatories.
