Question : Hi Doctor, I was in the hospital overnight and the doctors want me on eliquis. know it can have some serious side effects but can also work wonders. I don'r know where the ball lies for me. I just want a minimum of pain and a maximum of comfort. Can you give me any recommendations on this?

Brief Answer:
Yes

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome.
First, Eliquis is not used for pain management so it won't affect painful condition on either positive or negative way. It is used for anticoagulation in some conditions which carry a risk of thrombosis, for example atrial fibrillation,al cerebrovasular insult, vein thrombosis etc. Second,Eliquis is definitely better option than martefarin since it has less side effects. Side effects are generally rare and may include abdominal discomfort, dizziness or nausea. Most concerns regards to spontaneous bleeding which is possible side effect of any anticoagulant but for Eliquis this is minimal and usually seen only after some injury. So,I don't think you should be concerned about starting Eliquis especially if you take it for heart conditions or deep vein thrombosis risk. Wish you good health. Feel free to ask. Regards
