Posted on Mon, 12 Jan 2015
Question: Hi, I have just had blood test done and have gamma GT level of 219. Doctor just said too much alcohol. I did drink at the weekend (4 days ago). Would this be the most likely cause? Plus how long to reduce to acceptable levels?

Thanks

Brief Answer:
Yes, drinking alcohol might be a cause.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through your GGT test report and noted that it is slightly elevated.

It is an indicator of possible liver damage.

Drinking alcohol is an important factor to get high GGT levels especially if you have drink a lot recently. This is why I also think that alcohol is the most likely cause of your problem.

Once you stop drinking alcohol, it will usually take up to 4-6 weeks (a maximum of 3 months) to get it reduced.

All the best!
